The Work
Uncovered

Uncovered is a visual reflection of my journey as a dark skinned growing woman navigating the lasting effects of colorism, stigma, and the quiet wounds they leave behind.
The scarf represents the shame, fear, and invisibility I learned to carry, layers shaped by words, expectations, and society's narrow definition of beauty. As the series unfolds, these layers, represented by the scarf, are slowly removed, not because the scars disappeared but because healing begins with the courage of being seen.
This work is about reclaiming identity, embracing the skin I once questioned, and finding freedom. It's an invitation to look beyond complexion and recognize the beauty, strength, and dignity that have always existed beneath the layers.
